Horizon South West is a network of over 45 environmental business support organisations in the South West dedicated to maximising the effectiveness of environmental business support, advice and guidance towards a low carbon, resource efficient and sustainable region.region. It was formed in 1998 and became a Company Limited by Guarantee in 2002.

Horizon South West is a partnership network that encourages innovation in the effective delivery of advice and guidance to businesses and organisations in the region on low carbon and resource efficient solutions.

Membership is open to organisations in the South West supporting the aims and objectives of Horizon South West. All applications are accepted at the discretion of Board of Directors, after consultation with the membership where the Directors consider this to be appropriate. Decisions of application for membership will be advised to applicants within one month of the Directors meeting. The Directors reserve the right to cancel or suspend membership. There are no membership fees.

These are generally those organisations working with business to reduce environmental impacts and improve sustainability.

Members include:

  • Not-for-Profit Local Environmental Business Support Organisations, Waste Minimisation Groups, Energy and Environmental Management Groups & Business Links
  • Governmental Agencies such as Government Office for the South West, Environment Agency, Regional Development Agency, and Regional Assembly
  • National Business Organisations such as the CBI and the Institute of Directors Organisations which are eligible to be formal members may choose to be Associate members

Aims

  • To influence strategically the sustainable development of business activity in the South West to protect and enhance the environment.
  • To maximize the effectiveness of member organisations.

Objectives

To foster co-operation with bodies outside the Group, (for example the Regional Development Agency, the Regional Roundtable for Sustainable Development), in order to shape/influence regional strategy.

a) To encourage the development and best practice of the regional environmental services and manufacturing sectors.
b) To encourage a coherent strategy for 'clean technology' solutions for business in the Region.
a) To encourage co-operation and the co-ordination of activities within Horizon South West.
b) To actively share information, promote good practice and encourage quality in the Group.
c) To actively foster partnerships within the Group
d) To provide practical support to members through raising awareness of funding opportunities.
