Director of Knowledge WestFern Urquhart Fern is the Director of the Knowledge West team. Previous to her role of Director, Fern was the Business Interface Manager at the University of the West of England and has extensive experience in working with business organisations on projects where university expertise can assist their progress. Over the last two years Fern has also been chairing a collaborative project, Knowledge Exploitation South West (KESW), across all South West universities. KESW, which is funded by the South West Regional Development Agency, supports the growth of business in the South West through the transfer of expertise from Higher Education. In addition Fern is a Non-executive Director of the Brandon Trust, a large charity in Bristol working in the field of learning disabilities. She is also a founding member of St Peter's Hospice. QuickMark ManagerJohn Bradford John has an extensive track record in building and delivering projects and partnerships. This has included substantial business case and proposal writing in small business and University settings. Most recently with Futurelab, John worked with educational technology partners to secure licensing deals, submit grant applications and develop investments plans. John is a Member of the Institute of Knowledge Transfer, a Business Advisor to Colston's Girls School's Young Enterprise company, and an active contributor to the Bristol entrepreneurship community. He is also a Skipper with the London Sailing Project sail training organisation. Flagship Initiative AdvisersAlison Needler Alison Needler has gained experience running her own business as an architectural photographer and in television production for the BBC. Alison's role as Flagship Initiative Adviser is to identify potential flagship projects which encourage interaction and knowledge transfer between higher education institutions and creative industries that are using digital media applications. Alan Stewart Alan Stewart has several years experience of working on research and development, project and business management functions in the power generation industry for BNG (British Nuclear Group), Nuclear Electric and CEGB (Central Electricity Generation Board). Alan's role as Flagship Initiative Adviser is to identify potential flagship projects which encourage interaction and knowledge transfer between higher education institutions, science, engineering and technology industries, and other support organisations. Administration SecretaryAlexis Harding Alexis Harding is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the team, providing administration, secretarial support and help for our events. |
